Love-shyness
(LS) is a term coined by Dr. Brian Gilmartin (1940-2016) in his 1987
book Shyness and Love: Causes,
Consequences, and Treatment, referring to a specific shyness
around potential romantic partners, often severe enough to impair or
prevent entirely participation in DSR (dating, sex, and relationships).
Dr. Gilmartin
estimated that up to 1.5% of American men may suffer from LS, and he
has also posited a significant correlation between LS and Asperger's
Syndrome.
LS is related to, but distinct from, involuntary celibacy (incel);
while both conditions entail a difficulty forming relationships, there
are others factors besides shyness and inhibitions that can cause these
problems. Those afflicted with the two conditions very often have
markedly different personal histories that brought them to this point.
Both types are represented on our discussion forums.
If this sounds like you or anyone you know, please feel free to explore
this site, and join and participate in our forums! May we all overcome
our LS and live happily ever after.
